You can install BS Buddy by running the exe file and following the steps specified in the Installation Wizard screen. For details, you can refer the Install BS Buddy link above.
You may not be able to login due to There can be four reasons why you can't log in to BS Buddy. The reasons are:
1. A firewall may be preventing the messenger from connecting to the messenger server. The BS Buddy server runs on port 5222 which is a standard port for XMPP protocol. If your PC has a personal firewall that blocks this port, you cannot login to BS Buddy. Note that, although you may not have a firewall installed on your PC, there may a firewall at the Gateway or the ISP (Internet Service Provider). Contact your system administrator or network support engineer to verify the firewall settings. If you cannot login to other services, ensure that the firewall has not blocked port numbers used by other services. Port numbers used by various services are as follows:

2. If your PC has any anti-virus software installed, then the software may have blocked BS Buddy from connecting to the Internet. Most of the anti-virus software generate logs that can be used to check whether BS Buddy has been prevented from connecting to the Internet.
3. When the installation of BS Buddy is in progress, some of the application files (mostly IdleTrac.dll) are deleted by anti-virus/anti-spam software programs. The files are deleted as the anti-virus or anti-spam software suspects the file to be a spyware. To rectify the problem, please verify that the IdleTrac.dll file is present in the Modules folder which is located in the installation folder of BS Buddy (for example, C:\Program Files\Business Standard\BS Buddy\Modules\). If you cannot find this file, contact the messenger support team to obtain a copy of IdleTrac.dll. Paste the file in the Modules folder and restart BS Buddy.
4. If you have installed an older version of Google Desktop application (version 20050818-en) and have not upgraded to the latest version, there is a possibility that BS Buddy may crash. The latest version of Google Desktop has a fix for this problem. Please upgrade Google Desktop to the latest version, and then use BS Buddy.
If you are unable to access BS Buddy, and you have McAfee Personal Firewall installed on your PC, then you need to adjust your settings as specified below:
1. Open McAfee Personal Firewall
2. Select Personal Firewall Plus located on the left side
3. Click View the Internet Application list
4. Go to BS Buddy in the Application Name column
5. Right-click BS Buddy and select the Allow Full Access option
Note: If BS Buddy is crashing frequently and you have McAfee Personal Firewall installed please refer to McAfee's online tutorial for instructions on resolving this issue.
If you are unable to access BS Buddy, and you have Norton Personal Firewall installed on your PC, then you need to adjust your settings as specified below:
1. Open Norton Personal Firewall
2. Select Status & Settings from the left menu bar
3. Select Personal Firewall from the middle column
4. Click Configure
5. In the new window, click the Programs tab
6. Go to BS Buddy in the Manual Program Control table
7. Click the Internet Access column for BS Buddy, and select Allow All
8. Click OK
If your firewall was already set to allow BS Buddy, please delete the rule and follow the instructions above to re-add it
If you are unable to access BS Buddy, and you have PC-Cillin Internet Security installed on your PC, then you need to adjust your settings as specified below:
1. Open PC-Cillin Internet Security.
2. Click Network Security located on the left side.
3. Click Edit.
4. From the Personal Firewall Profile window, open the Exception List.
5. Click Add.
6. Enter the following information in the appropriate fields:
a. Description - BS Buddy
b. Target - Specified application (enter C:\Program Files\Business Standard\BS Buddy\bubuddy.exe)
c. Action - Allow
d. Ports - All Ports
7. Click Save.
If your firewall was already set to allow BS Buddy, please delete the rule and follow the instructions above to re-add it.
If you are unable to access BS Buddy, and you have Tiny Personal Firewall installed on your PC, then you need to adjust your settings as specified below:
1. Open Tiny Personal Firewall.
2. Go to the Administration Center.
3. From the Groups menu, click Trusted.
4. Click Enroll.
5. Enter BS Buddy in the application name field, then enter C:\Program Files\Business Standard\BS Buddy\bubuddy.exe
6. Click Save.
If your firewall was already set to allow Google Talk, please delete the rule, then follow the instructions above to re-add it.
If you are logged into multiple IM services, you can appear offline to contacts of a particular service by logging into the service in the Invisible mode.
To login to BS service in the invisible mode, select Login under invisible mode option in the Login to BS screen.
To login to other IM service(s) in the invisible mode, select Login under invisible mode option in the Login to multiple services screen.
To change the status to the invisible mode after logging in, right-click the service node and select Invisible.
Note: You cannot appear online to some contacts and offline to others in the same IM service.
You can set an automatic message when you lock your PC by following the steps below:
1. Select Action -> Preferences to view the Preferences dialog box. Then click the Presence Status tab.
2. Select the When machine is locked set status to option. Then, select I'm Away from the first drop-down list. If required, you can also set a custom status along with the presence status.
BS Dashboard is a panel that displays work flow related content. It displays certain pages from the Business Standard website, such as Today's Page, News Now, Shopping, and so on. Additionally, it also displays key indices and stock prices, which are delayed by 10 minutes or more. The BS Dashboard refreshes every five minutes with news and stock updates. The BS Dashboard can also be manually refreshed by clicking on the Refresh button.
